Precious Moments were created by Sam Butcher. He originally drew teardrop-eyed children to encourage
and comfort family and friends. He called them Precious Moments because they reflected life's
Precious Moments of love, caring and sharing.
In 1978, Enesco Corporation's president saw Sam's Precious Moments on a small line of greeting cards.
He took the Precious Moments drawings to Japan where master sculptor Yasuhei Fujioka transformed the
one dimensional Precious Moments drawings into beautiful porcelain figurines.
In 1979, the first 21 Precious Moments were offered, children with soulful expressions and inspirational
titles. Today, Precious Moments are more than a collectors item - Precious Moments are expressions of
faith and love.
