To ensure the lasting beauty of your Nikko fine tableware, please follow these simple guidelines for proper care and handling.
Casual Dinnerware
Most Nikko casual dinnerware is conventional oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. Check dinner plate backstamp for usage recommendation that apply to your pattern.
Formal China
We recommend hand washing with mild detergent for Bone China and Fine Porcelain. If you only use your fine china occasionally and wish to clean it in the dishwasher, use the minimum amount of automatic dishwashing detergent. The high heat from the drying cycle can soften gold or platinum trim and decoration, so wait until the china is completely cool before handling. Or, if your dishwasher model will allow, turn off the hot air dry cycle, let it cool down and allow your china to air dry. If you use your fine china every day, we do not recommend putting it in the dishwasher. Over time, frequent automatic dishwashing can harm the decoration of fine china. When storing fine china, use protective pads or soft towels between pieces and avoid sliding pieces over one another to prevent surface scratching.
Dishwasher safe
Use a mild automatic dishwashing detergent, such as Cascade, and be sure to load your dishwasher so that items will not touch one another while the machine is in use. Careful loading and unloading will prevent chipping. Sometimes the edges of serrated knives may leave a residue that appears as gray marks on the item surface. If these should appear, simply use Zud or a comparable strength cleanser to remove them.
Microwave Safe
Dinnerware with gold or platinum trim should never be used in the microwave. No ceramic wares of any type should be used in the microwave without food or liquid in them.
Oven Safe
Never expose your dinnerware to a direct flame or place it directly on a heating element. Oven safe wares can be placed in an oven, with food or liquid in them. Avoid exposing dinnerware to extreme or rapid changes in temperature, such as immersing in cool water immediately after removing from a hot oven. Some of our dinnerware is freezer to oven safe, but place it in a cold oven.
